How much paint will I need for my
project?
To work out how much paint you will
need measure the length of each wall, add these together and
multiply this figure by the height of the ceiling.
Example:
A room measuring 4m x 3m with a 3m ceiling would work out 4 + 4 +
3 + 3 = 14 x 3 = 42sqm. (Remember to subtract the area of doors
and windows.)
Given that one litre of paint will cover between 14-16sqm, or
approx. 64sqm to a 4litre tin, for 42 sqm you will need
approximately 3 litres of paint to cover the walls. The ceiling
will require just under one litre. For rough or porous surfaces
allow an extra 15% for the first coat.
For the tricky bits
you might find these formulae handy :
Paint Coverage for a Triangle
To find the area of a triangle, multiply the base by half the
height.
Paint Coverage for a Circle
To find the area of a circle, multiply the radius (half the
diameter) by itself and then multiply the answer by 3.1416.
Paint Coverage for Corrugated
roofing
Most roofing has 63.5mm wide corrugations To find the total
surface area, multiply the width of the corrugated sheet by 1.25
or add 25%.
