Countersinking
Do not use nails with a flat head. Drive the nail in flush
with the surface, and then use a punch to drive nails below the surface (1). Use
filler to hide the nail (2).
When nailing near to the end of timber, always bore small pilot holes to prevent
the wood splitting.

Secret Nailing
Chisel up a sliver of wood and nail into the recess. Glue the silver back to
hide the nail (3).
Hardboard Nail
Tapered head almost completely disappears when driven in. Good holding down
power for thin materials. (4)
