1. To avoid splitting wood when working near the end, cut the wood slightly
larger, nail, then saw off the excess.
2. Do not nail into the same line of grain more than once as this tends to split
the wood.
3. When nailing into hardwood, always drill guide holes slightly
smaller than the thickness of the nail.
This avoids splitting the wood.
